british cuisine

Monday, February 2
Let me just say this. British food is delicious. I ate, and ate, and ate. Though we have all been realizing that all this walking reduces us to two primal needs, one of them being eating. Here's a taste.

Fish & Chips- I don't have a picture...but it is an excellent dish, and I'm not really a "fish" person. Our last night, we explored Harrod's (a gargantuan labyrinth of extreme shopping) and when it closed at 8, almost NO restaurants were open but we simply had to eat fish n chips before leaving. So, we went to a cozy pub that was open and let me tell you...it was quite quite good! (The truth is that I have only good things to say about London, except that it was freezing.) Also, none of us were brave enough to eat the mushy peas. But I'm sure they weren't that bad. :)

The Crypt- Kathy found this inexpensive local cafeteria near Piccadilly Circus. It was really tasty and filled with mostly Brits rather than tourists. There were people of all ages- that's one thing I noticed-- so many older individuals in Europe have no problem walking around outside for long distances or sitting outside on benches. It's kind of refreshing to see that so often.

Kathy, excited?

Italian Food at Bella Italia- Let me just say that this was possibly the most hilarious dinner I have eaten. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious. But I think we were all so ecstatic to be in a city where we understood the language! It was a really cute corner restaurant, with leisurely service. Anyway, Kathy told us the best story about a tapdancing Viking and a magical golden ladybug-- so magical, that "It was like the sun. Or Jesus." We laughed.

One regret- we didn't get to eat any Indian food, which I've heard is delicious in London. Oh well, next time!!
