hungarian nights

Saturday, March 7
We continued our relaxing day in Budapest as we stepped out into the darkening city. We found a great spot to stop and enjoy the view, this time at night.

My travel book suggested a restaurant called Hemingway's, so we decided to check it out. I think it's safe to say it is one of the fanciest restaurants I have been to. But, being Hungary, the meal prices were like a regular restaurant. I was brave and tried duck, which was delicious.

Afterward, Caroline ordered the Hemingway ice cream cup...we expected a simple cup. No way. This thing was like sweet nectar of the gods-- it was enormous, and everyone tried it and well now we're all obsessed! We had a wonderful, talkative and cheery dinner along the lake where the restaurant was situated. Apparently Patrick Stewart and other celebrities have been there as well, haha.
Unfortunately, our mood was dimmed a little when the trouble we'd had trying to get our heads around the currency (313 forints to 1 euro) confused us completely. The bill? Over 47,000 forints. (Don't worry mom and dad...we only spent about 15 euro each!) And then we couldn't figure out if we had to pay for tax or for tip, so we asked. Still confused, we hoped we left the right amount.

Regardless of the confusion, we had a wonderful day in Budapest! We went to bed ready for a morning walk and then the long ride back to Maastricht.
