Thursday, March 5

We arrived at Vienna in the afternoon. We wandered around for a little while, trying to find the palace and other things to check out, but we didn't have much luck. We ended up walking around the Alstadt and found these creepy monk children in a park. Okay, they aren't children...but still, creepy.
After finding out that the restaurant we had planned on eating at was way too pricey, we ended up eating at The Centimeter, which was delicious. We were able to get a big table in a room by ourselves, so it's fair to say we were a little louder than the rest of the clientele. :) The nine of us had a great time chatting and eating and taking goofy pictures. I just want to say that we had an AMAZING group for the week- I can't wait to travel with all of them again.

After dinner was the BEST part of Vienna-- ice skating at the Rathaus!! (Rathaus is German for city hall.) It was absolutely amazing! The enormous building was lit up with colorful lights, the weather wasn't too cold, and there were a ton of people there. We sang along to the music (like the rest of Europe, it was mostly familiar American songs), made some new friends, and enjoyed some hot chocolate and crepes. We all took videos. It was one of the most fun nights I have had so far!

The next morning, after a nice sleep at Hotel Meininger, we were all sore from ice skating, but it was worth it. Everyone was tired but Chris and Rachel agreed to check out the Freud Museum with me! Being a psychology major, I pretty much had to go, with or without people.

We got to the area where it was supposed to be, but we couldn't find it at all! It took us 30 minutes of walking around to figure out that our map had given us the wrong block- it was a little ways down and hidden by a crane! Thankfully we got to explore it- Freud's house, where he began psychoanalysis and changed the nature of psychology as we know it!!! Amazing.

We ended the trip by tasting the famous Sacher Torte...which I actually hadn't heard of before but it was in this fancy hotel, where we had to strip all of our backpacks and well, we kind of looked out of place. Anyways, it's like pure chocolate and apparently the secret ingredient is apricot..it was a little too rich for me but everyone else loved it!

Oh yes, and our last stop in Vienna? See for yourself.

And actually, it wasn't clean or nice as you'd think...but there was opera music, I'll give it that. ;)
